Our Klote consultant arrived in September 2011 to guide our capital campaign process. Overall, the experience has been extremely positive. The Klote approach of having a consultant on-site and full-time is vital because the campaign requires many volunteers and someone to keep us all focused and on schedule. He was personable, energetic and had a great sense of humor. He quickly became a member of our staff and church community. He worshiped with us on Sunday and knew many of the parishioners by name.
Our consultant learned quickly, was hard working and devoted to our success. He used his highly honed diplomatic skills, extensive campaign experience, can-do attitude, and good humor to strategize, organize, train, and dispatch campaign callers. He worked extraordinarily long hours to evaluate, organize and produce a large number of progress reports, pledge cards, and spreadsheets. He was graciously persuasive about the reasons for sticking with the best practices whenever we tried to veer off in other directions. He also knew when to fade into the background or when to move into a more prominent role when his expertise enhanced the effectiveness of meetings and visits.
As a Vestry, our initial concerns had to do with trying to raise money during a recession. Our consultant helped us to experience the joy of a shared vision as we made sacrificial commitments for the benefit of our campaign, also known as ‘Glorifying God’s Kingdom.’ The contributions he has made to the mission and ministry are immeasurable. As a member of the Vestry, I recommend our consultant, with gratitude.

Carmel Lutheran Church kicked off its ‘Hearts Compelled To Share’ capital campaign in record style. As of January 25th just 73 families of the more than 900 in the church had already committed $3.75 million dollars. That total represents not only the best kickoff to a campaign at CLC, it also represents the best campaign in total even though only 8% of the congregation has pledged so far.
The previous best campaign was just four years ago when CLC collected a total of about $3 million in pledges from over 425 donors.
