I am writing with an update as to how First Lutheran’s 2017 Capital campaign is proceeding.
I need to mention that this is my first experience with a Capital Campaign and I was significantly anxious about accepting a role on the steering committee, and about participating in campaign visits.
From the beginning the consultant has been instrumental in my successful participation in this campaign. He provides support and education to me that has allowed me to grow into my roles on the steering committee and as a visitor.
Although there was little time between his arrival and the scheduling of the first focus groups, those meetings went off without issue, and tweaks were made after each gathering to improve the next. The development of the materials used during the visits has gone through incremental improvements, incorporating First’s input and the consultant’s recommendations, and has resulted in an easy to use and engaging brochure describing all the campaign goals. The steering committee meetings are focused and stay on task.
In all aspects of my interaction with the consultant he has been helpful, prompt, supporting, and friendly. He has maintained an excellent level of contact with the Steering committee and the visitors. He has provided guidance in the progression of the campaign, been accepting of First Lutheran’s decisions during the campaign, and helped to maintain focus on the campaign. The consultant has been a fixture at First Lutheran since his arrival. I have personally been attending every service since the start of the campaign to make contacts with congregation members. The consultant has been there every service as well, being a welcoming figure, supporting the campaign, and worshiping with the community at First.
The campaign progresses more slowly than we would wish, but that is not for lack of support and encouragement from the consultant. During his time here at First Lutheran, he has become a welcomed member of the community.

Carmel Lutheran Church kicked off its ‘Hearts Compelled To Share’ capital campaign in record style. As of January 25th just 73 families of the more than 900 in the church had already committed $3.75 million dollars. That total represents not only the best kickoff to a campaign at CLC, it also represents the best campaign in total even though only 8% of the congregation has pledged so far.
The previous best campaign was just four years ago when CLC collected a total of about $3 million in pledges from over 425 donors.
