The Parish of Calvary – St. George’s Kicks Off Capital Campaign in Record Style

New York, NY – “The Parish of Calvary – St. George’s kicked off its ‘Our Time, Our Church’ capital campaign in record style. As of January 7th just 46 individuals and families of the more than 600 connected to the church had already committed $3 million dollars. “at total represents not only the best kickoff to a campaign at Calvary – St. George’s, it also represents the best campaign in total even though only 8% of the congregation has pledged so far.

“The Reverend Jacob Smith, Rector said, “This is a daunting call, and I often find myself asking, What are we doing? That is however, exactly where the Holy Spirit leads us, into an impossible place so He alone receives the glory. God can and will do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine! I can’t wait for you to join us.”

Over 200 parishioners attended the weekend service to help kickoff a campaign to raise funds for much needed renovations of both historic churches to be used by generations to come. The project will include replacement of Calvary Church’s roof, interior renovation due to water damage. Improvements to St. George’s Church includes the replacement of the roof at the Pierce House that hosts The Jack & Jill School and many other ministries and outreach programs. Improved lavatories and renovations of the historically significant organs.

We also host 11 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings each week. 100 people at our weekly Common Table meal partners with and numerous outreach ministry programs.”

Chair for the campaign is Christopher Rehkow who was also very excited about the opportunities that a successful campaign will bring to the parish. “Our goal,” Chris said, “is to complete the much-needed repairs to the churches. “The goal is to fully fund the project by this campaign.”

“The leadership really stepped up for this early part of the campaign through aspirational giving,” Rehkow said. “Now we’re looking forward to extending that personal visit strategy Klote brings us to the rest of the congregation. If we all work together, we can do this.”
