Columbia, SC – St. Martin’s-in-the Fields Episcopal Church followed their packed 10:30am service with the announcement of the launch of the “Building on the Legacy” Capital Campaign.
Rector Mitch Smith delivered a powerful Stewardship Campaign sermon during both of the morning services and invited all attending to the announcement in the Sanctuary, immediately following the service.
The Campaign Chair, Neil Rashley welcomed the attendees and asked Reverend Mitch to lead the invocation followed by Alice McCrory, Vestry Treasurer, who is the daughter of a founding member of the church in the early 1950’s. She invited the other members of the founding families currently attending, to stand. When the fourth generation child of a founding member was introduced, the church applauded and recognized the uniqueness of this congregation and their desire to renew the legacy established by the founding members.
Alice McCrory and Richard Smith, the Advance Gifts Co-Chair, provided the statistics of the campaign and the membership sense of abundance and the foundation for a successful completing of priorities.
Neil Rashley came back to review the process that has been completed and announced the achievement of the $1 million with 10 more weeks to go in the campaign.
As an indication of the members enthusiasm for the Campaign, the brunch was the largest sit-down service ever held in the Parish Hall. As further evidence, people continued to discuss the needs of the church long after the food was consumed and several signed up to be visited to learn more about the campaign.
Lee Holden, James D. Klote & Associates (JDK&A) Campaign Director, commented, “The enthusiasm and welcoming behaviors of the congregation points to a very successful conclusion to the campaign.”
The campaign will be directed by JDK&A, a full-time, on-site capital stewardship consulting firm based in Falls Church, Virginia, recently ranked the #1 church consulting firm in the United States by Volkart, a market research firm in Minnesota.
