Chesapeake, VA “ Over two hundred members and regular attendees of Oak Grove United Methodist Church of Chesapeake, VA gathered to hear the first announcement of the results of their Capital Stewardship Campaign. Many watched via the TV monitors in their Sunday school classrooms, while others received the announcement during the Worship Service. The 241 year old church has grown dramatically in the past decade, far beyond what their predecessors could have ever envisioned. The announcement was followed by cake for all who wanted to join in the celebration as a sweet treat and a reminder of this momentous day.
Oak Grove UMC has a historic Sanctuary in front and a state of the art multi-purpose building in the background
Meaningful worship, heart-felt testimonies, and a compelling challenge to love God first and to be a place of forgiveness and grace all contributed to a morning full of glory. Following the announcement those who attended could be heard saying, Who do I need to see to get my visit scheduled? and I am going to fill out my pledge card this week!
The church has already had pledged over two million dollars from about 25% percent of the congregation which will go towards the General Fund and the Capital Campaign. Following the event, each of the remaining individuals and families within the church will be contacted for a personal ministerial visit. The church is hoping as a result of the campaign to be able to eliminate as much of their existing debt as possible paving the way for a positive impact of debt freedom to promote more education ministries, needed upgrades, expand and enhance ministry and missions, meals and mentoring programs for children and adult ministries.
