St. John Lutheran Church and School Proceeds with Capital Stewardship Campaign

Cypress, TX – In 1848, sixteen families from Posen Prussia made the long, arduous journey to settle in Little Cypress where they established a community and church in their newly adopted land. They gathered in homes for worship services and went on to build their first structure in 1853.

The people of St. John Lutheran Church and School throughout the years have faced many challenges, but have thrived throughout to become a strong, thriving congregation with many ministries and programs that influence their community and beyond.

Beginning in April 2017, a series of twenty two Focus Group meetings were held to inform and inspire the congregation regarding the needs and opportunities to promote the vision and mission of the church. The meetings were informative for the congregation and provided excellent input and feedback for leadership. They provided information regarding the remodeling, upgrading, debt reduction and future expansion of the facilities. Specific focus was on the three buildings that had been damaged by the “Tax Day Flood” of 2016.

At the completion of the Focus Groups and after reviewing the Readiness Assessment, the leadership moved to enter immediately into the “Abundantly More” Capital Stewardship Campaign. Senior Pastor David Bahn remarked, “The focus group process provided us with significant and helpful insights about the hopes and dreams of the people of God at St. John. Having listened carefully to this feedback we are communicating our needs even more clearly. We are very encouraged by the comments of those who attended. The people of God are committed to God’s mission here, and we are pursuing a successful Capital Stewardship Campaign to support that mission.”

Each of the individuals and families within the church will be contacted for a personal visit. The church is enthusiastic and optimistic about its present and future and the eventual success of the campaign.
