Minneapolis, MN – First Church celebrated the public launch of their $6.5 million Capital Campaign “Not For Ourselves Alone: Building an Inclusive Future,” with over 600 adults and children in attendance at Minneapolis Event Centers. In opening remarks, Eric Cooperstein, President of the Board of Trustees asked, “Who builds the great gathering spaces, the places where people can come together to support each other, to welcome the stranger, to create the world we want to live in? Who builds the structures that instead of serving commercial interests, will be a physical testament to the values we hold so dear? My friends, this is the time we get to build…to construct doors large enough to allow everyone in, where relationships and community can blossom.”
Senior Minister Rev. Justin Schroeder and Executive Minister Rev. Jen Crow presented a compelling vision for First Church to expand welcoming hospitality, enhance worship experience, ensure inclusive programs, and encourage future ministries recalling that at their recent annual State of the Church meeting, the congregation unanimously passed a resolution to be a Sanctuary Church, acting to support and protect those who are increasingly targeted because of their marginalized status in the United States. Give Get Sistet and singer/songwriter Ann Reed provided entertainment as the congregation celebrated having already raised $3,472,775 in pledges.
