Atlanta, GA – During its initial “quiet” phase of fundraising, UUCA has raised more than $2.8 million — or 70% — of its $4 million goal for its capital campaign to transform its new property into a vibrant campus and hub for organizing, education, and interfaith collaboration. UUCA has hit this early milestone having asked for and received pledges from just 19% of the congregation as part of its “Building a New Way…Together” campaign.
A time of deadly pandemic, economic downturn, and long-overdue uprisings calling for social and racial justice might not seem like the ideal moment to take on such an ambitious multi-year project. But under the visionary leadership of Senior Minister Reverend Taryn Strauss, the difficult events of this year have served to catalyze the vision of the UUCA congregation to grow, ever more, into a beacon of religious freedom and service to those searching for meaning, community, and their place in the web of existence that connects us all.
“The sheer talent and deep engagement of this community is the reason we have flourished during a pandemic—an understanding that we currently find ourselves with an unprecedented opportunity to shape our future, both for our current congregation and for generations to come,” said Senior Minister Taryn Strauss
Fittingly, UUCA’s symbol is that of a phoenix rising from the flames of a flaming chalice.
“Now, it is our turn to be the visionaries. Generations from now, our congregation will look back with gratitude for our willingness to step up and build a new way,” explained Capital Campaign Committee co-chairs Ellen Beattie and John Guyton
Campaign Director Glenn Wagner stated, “There is a tremendous excitement among the congregation to complete the campaign and be able to move into their new campus. The virtual kick off event set the tone for the coming days in a powerful way.”
