I bring you greetings from Christ Episcopal Church and School in Rockville, Maryland, where your consultant is navigating us through the critical phases of our Capital Campaign.
While I have been away for a month of vacation this summer my experience before departing and after returning is the same. I think the consultant is doing a terrific job across several fronts: developing personal relationships with each of the members of the campaign’s steering committee and other significant institutional leaders, and building the campaign’s leadership base; walking the leaders through the necessary steps of each piece of the campaign’s evolution and providing a “big picture” view of where we’re headed; providing helpful insight as folks encounter challenges and problems or have questions; keeping the team on track and organized while respecting the domain of the committee heads and their work; offering ideas & experiential wisdom from other campaigns; responding promptly to requests for help of various kinds; offering positive reinforcement in “training” leaders for personal pledge visits along with constructive suggestions; respecting the decisions of the group and its leaders while also sharing constructive ideas & opinions; communicating in advance when he will be away and unavailable; reporting on his weekly initiatives and noting the campaign’s progress; engaging various committee members and leaders in specific tasks with awareness of and respect for the gifts, talents and strengths of each.
I was on the staff of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church 16+ years ago when they/we undertook a Capital Campaign, and my memory of your company’s involvement there was very positive. My experience here at Christ Church Rockville is that and more. Yesterday we announced our funds raised total for the silent phase of the project, which was just slightly below our target of $2 million. It was a thrill to have nearly hit our goal, and I think the good work underway here is well on its way to bearing more abundant fruit. The consultant is a crucial and wonderful key to our strong showings thus far.
I thank you for his leadership and for the excellent services your company provides us through him and beyond.
