As I came back to the office today, I must admit that I was ‘bummed’ to see the consultant’s temporary office bare and empty. He is already missed by this congregation, and he had an impact on us beyond that of a consultant alone.
Having said that, I’ve realized, as we’ve wrapped up his part of this ongoing campaign, that his work here has resulted in far more than raising funds. Yes, we’ve done a great work in that area, and I have no doubt that we will surpass 7 times giving once completed, but this campaign has meant much more for the long-term growth and strength of this parish.
For long-time members there was a sense of amazement that this little church, so burdened by financial difficulties throughout most of its history, has been able to reach such a figure, while pledging also increases. For newer members, this is yet another example of what they’ve seen during their shorter time here; a parish that is solidly grounded and doing amazing things for the Kingdom. For all, they realize that all things are possible with God.
Thanks to working with the consultant, the two of us spent some time near the end focusing on planned giving, which we will roll out here shortly. Already, our largest donor, who is in his final years, has been impressed to the point of informing me that, Lord willing, we will be receiving an additional $500K to $1 million upon his departing to his Savior.
In short, this campaign has been (and continues to be) an incredible success on multiple fronts.
I also cannot commend the consultant enough in words. Kudos to you for directing him our way because he was a perfect fit from the get go, and his personality comforted and assured all of our volunteers that we could do this. Although he may be newer to your firm, I can attest that he is a natural and blessed with many talents. No doubt, his firm faith in Jesus Christ has a lot to do with that.
Thanks again to you and for your consultant, and we will keep you updated as our projects move forward.

Carmel Lutheran Church kicked off its ‘Hearts Compelled To Share’ capital campaign in record style. As of January 25th just 73 families of the more than 900 in the church had already committed $3.75 million dollars. That total represents not only the best kickoff to a campaign at CLC, it also represents the best campaign in total even though only 8% of the congregation has pledged so far.
The previous best campaign was just four years ago when CLC collected a total of about $3 million in pledges from over 425 donors.
