As a member of the vestry I supported the undertaking of the campaign and the use of Klote & Associates for professional guidance. Though my already heavy involvement in Chapel activities prevented me from playing a prominent role in the campaign, my constant presence on the grounds for other matters kept me in close contact with what was going on. Moreover, I and another WMC parishioner, Marcia Sommers, did agree to help facilitate focus groups so we did get to experience the training and focus group preparation with our consultant, and his on-site help when we did our focus groups. I’ve also gotten to know him because I have been in the admin building daily for the past six weeks. This daily presence enabled me to talk with him and ask questions so I could understand what was going on.
I have been very impressed with the constant presence of our on-site consultant and his knowledge and talent in providing guidance and direction, his skills in relating to people of all types, and his constant good humor and common-sense wisdom. The kick-off luncheon held on May 22 was well executed and choreographed, informative, and achieved its goal of creating some excitement, providing information, and generally giving people the vital impression that the Chapel knows what it is doing. I know that the WMC people involved in pulling it off are quality people in their own right and deserve their own share of credit, but I also know that his guidance and influence were felt there, and I even saw some of it displayed during the event itself.
Of course, the ultimate success of the campaign will be measured against the goals of raising $5.5 million. And I am heartened when I hear that the steering committee and our Klote consultant say they know that the Chapel has to reach out beyond just Chapel parishioners to raise the funds, and that it has plans and some actions already taken to do that.
Our consultant represents your organization well, and in doing so delivers under your organization’s banner valuable information, guidance, and support for conducting a capital campaign. I have great hope that the remaining phases of the campaign will be as successful as the initial one.
