New York, NY – The Board of Trustees of the Church of All Souls voted to proceed with a Capital Campaign after completing a Readiness Assessment conducted by James D. Klote and Associates.
All Souls is a congregation of nearly 1,500 people that come together to worship, provide an enriching environment of spiritual growth and ethical practice, and serve the community. Established in 1819, All Souls is preparing for its third century and will celebrate its bicentennial in 2019.
The current building at 80th and Lexington was built in 1932, and it also provides a home for the All Souls School (nursery to pre-K). As part of its outreach, All Souls’ weekly Monday Night Hospitality Program and Friday Soup Kitchen serve over 30,000 hot meals annually to at-risk members of its larger community.
Funds raised in this campaign will enable the church to preserve, renew, and enhance its physical assets to support its thriving community. These renovations will also enable All Souls to utilize its beautiful, historic sanctuary for year-round worship and other activities, making it available not just for congregants, but also for community organizations and local schools in need of space. Critical infrastructure needs, as well as funding for future needs, are also part of the plan to ensure that All Souls is accessible, open, and welcoming — not just for today, but also for tomorrow.
When asked why this campaign is so important, one church leader expressed the hope that All Souls would “continue to be a beacon for an open and tolerant society by restoring this beautiful building to its former glory and enabling us to welcome all for another 200 years!”
Senior Minister, Galen Guengerich adds: “This campaign is an expression of gratitude for what we have been given by previous generations of faithful All Souls members and friends, and it represents our shared commitment to extending this legacy for generations to come.”
