Houston, TX – During the Saturday, September 22nd briefing on Feasibility Study results at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Vestry members and guests learned that the ten focus group meetings conducted over a four-week period were well attended and well received. Over 50% of the St. James’ pledging households attended at least one meeting. 86% of respondents felt that the focus group meetings and the Feasibility Study process would yield findings and conclusions that Vestry could rely on to “make decisions and take action.”
Sr. Warden Dr. Joe Jones felt the results validated the Vestry’s selection of James D. Klote and Associates as the firm to conduct a feasibility study. “We were impressed with the Klote approach from the beginning, so there’s no surprise in the results.”
The congregation revealed through the feasibility study that they knew what they wanted to do and were prepared to undertake a Capital Campaign. The focus group meetings made known the congregation’s desire to fulfill its mission through greater community outreach, more emphasis on spiritual development and refurbishment of its facilities to greater serve the community as a resource center.
“The findings and commitment to conduct a campaign couldn’t be timelier,” observed Klote Campaign Consultant, Wayne Spaulding. “The Third Ward, where the church is located, is a neighborhood in transition. St. James’ will be the spiritual beacon to the new, young families moving to this part of Houston.” “There is so much to do,” said Rev. Victor Thomas, St. James Rector. “Now we’ll have the means to take on the challenge.”
