Sarasota, FL – Sarasota’s Church of the Redeemer dedicated their new Christian Formation and Ministry Center!
Church of the Redeemer is one of the oldest churches in Sarasota. It has 2,300 members and is located downtown across the Tamiami Trail from Sarasota Bay and Marina Jack. On December 8, 2019, a dedication ceremony of a new seven-million-dollar Ministry Center and a Celtic Cross (public art sculpture) was held. The parishioners raised the money to fund the project, so the entire project is debt-free.
The plan for a sculpture was approved by the City Commissioners and there was a call to artists to apply and bid. Local artist Chandell Sites was selected to design it and International Artistic Stone of Sarasota created it. Father Fred Robinson, the church’s Rector, said “The new, three-story unit is necessary for the church’s growth and has been about seven to eight years in the making. It feels wonderful. You wonder if you’ll ever get to this point, but we knew we would. We are out of space; we need more room for Christian education. We have staff members who are sitting in hallways because there’s just not enough office room, so we really have maxed out.” The dedication ceremony was live on the local news station.
Glendon Smith, the Campaign Director said, “I am glad to have been a part of this effort; Redeemer is a warm embracing place.”
