Light of Christ Lutheran Church Announces “Forward in Faith” Capital Campaign

Algonquin, IL – Light of Christ Lutheran Church (LOC) at 100 Hanson Road in Algonquin has decided to move forward with a Capital Campaign under the directorship of Doug Clark of James D. Klote & Associates, the nation’s premier Capital Campaign firm. This will be a 16-week campaign with a Kick-Off event scheduled for April 7. The new Church/Ministry Center will be located at the corner of Sleepy Hollow and Longmeadow Parkway by spring of 2018. The new Church/Ministry Center will have 31,800 sq. ft. on the first floor with an unfinished second floor that can be finished at a later time to create an additional 22,000 sq. ft.

Church Council President Keith Sharlog explained that, “We have simply outgrown our current facility at 100 Hanson Road and have decided the time is right to move forward with construction of a larger facility. This campaign will support our mission which is to invite people into Christian community, nurture them in a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ, so they can faithfully and joyfully serve Him. The church has vibrant adult and youth ministries and on an average weekend XXX people attend services. Most weeknights our current facility is filled to capacity with multiple groups making use of the space.”

For thirty-two years, LOC has been ministering to the Algonquin area. It was in 1985 when 130 people first attended worship in a storefront building at 215 South Main Street. The church is currently situated on five acres of land on Hanson Road. In 2006, members voted to purchase 18 acres of land at the corner of Longmeadow Parkway and Sleepy Hollow.

Pastor Kendall Koenig stated, “We are thrilled to be embarking on this Capital Campaign journey. I’m most excited about the home visits that we are going to make with all of our members. I envision very personal discussions about our ministry goals and not just a disconnected plea for money.”
